Owlmakers ("the developer") operates Decibelscope ("the app"), which uses the
microphone to measure sound level (dB) and shows you the error measured on this specific device.
It is an on-device app with no sign-in and no cloud.
Summary
· Microphone input is used only to compute sound level — nothing is recorded
or sent anywhere.
· There is no account or sign-in, so the developer holds no personal data about you. Only anonymous
usage statistics are sent to a developer server.
· Ads (Google AdMob) may use device identifiers.
· No feature is locked, including long-session logging, CSV export and
C-weighted switching — there is no payment, subscription or account.
1. Microphone use — nothing is recorded
The app uses the microphone permission (RECORD_AUDIO) to measure sound level (dB).
- Microphone input is used only to compute sound level and is discarded
immediately after.
- No recording is created, stored on the device, or sent anywhere.
- All analysis happens entirely on your device.
- The app stops using the microphone when you leave the measurement screen or the app goes to
the background.
2. Data stored on your device
The following stays on your device only and is never transmitted.

Uninstalling the app deletes this data.
3. Advertising — Google AdMob
The app shows Google AdMob ads to remain free.
- AdMob may collect an advertising ID (AAID) and device information to serve ads.
This is governed by Google's policies; the developer does not separately collect or retain it.

- Ad personalisation can be changed in device Settings → Google → Ads.
- Users in the EEA and the UK are shown a consent (UMP) dialog on first launch.
4. Usage analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase)
This app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to collect anonymous usage statistics
so the app can be improved.
- What is collected — app usage events such as which screens you open and which features you use,
together with an app instance ID that is randomly assigned per installation.
- What is not collected — no personally identifying information (name, email, phone number), and
measurement or calibration values themselves are never sent. The app instance ID
is not linked to a person and is discarded when you uninstall the app.
- Why — to see which features are actually used and prioritise improvements accordingly.
- Who processes it — Google performs the collection and processing; the developer only sees
aggregated statistics in which individuals are not identifiable.

5. Our own usage statistics (Owlmakers)
To check that the app is working in real use, the developer sends anonymous usage statistics
(including country and region) to its own server (api.owlmakers.com, over HTTPS).
- What is sent: app name, version and display language; screen views and actions such as starting or
finishing a measurement; an "in use" signal; and a random value created fresh on every
launch (never stored, so it identifies neither you nor your device).
- The server records only the country, region and city name of the connection.
IP addresses are not stored, and measurement values, calibration values, or
precise location are never received.
- Data is kept for one year and is not shared with third parties.
6. Children under 14
The app is not directed at children under 14 and does not knowingly collect their personal data.
7. Your rights
The app has no accounts and no sign-in, so the developer holds no personal data about you. You can
clear on-device data at any time by deleting records in the app or uninstalling it.
8. Safety notice
This app is not a medical device and does not diagnose or treat any condition.
Use a certified sound level meter where legal accuracy is required. Because of microphone limits,
error grows at very high levels (roughly above 100 dB).
